1963, the last full year of Predecimal coins, 1964 would see a limited issue only. 2 Threepences, One UNC and other EF/AU - fortunately most 1963 coins have survived in very high grades. 1963 6d, this one is actually quite worn by the standards of the year. It was the last year for the Sixpence, Shilling and Florin - they all circulated until 1966 but no more coins dated 1964 or 1965 were issued). They may have minted more after 1963, but they were dated 1963. Only the two bronze coins and Threepence were minted with the 1964 date. 1963 Florin (No Heads shot) A stunning last year piece. And Australian stamps 1962 - 1964 including the high value Explorers (The £2 King is worth around $100).
Loving Halfcrowns. British and Commonwealth coins 1750 - 1950 and anything Kiwi. If it's round, shiny and silvery I will love it.

Welcome to 1964 the last new year of Australian Predecimal coins. Just 3 of the denominations were issued in 1964, the Halfpenny, Penny and Threepence I have 2 An VF or so 1964 Penny, its reasonable to suspect that these coins were minted into 1965 and even 1966 as they were needed but still dated 1964. Extra Fact, some 700,000 of them were sent to New Zealand in November 1966 to alleviate a penny shortage there and these were used until NZ went decimal in 1967, hence why you will find a lot of worn 1960s dated Australian pennies here. I just bought this coin, a seller's photo - I honestly thought that no silver coins were minted after 1963 except for the 1966 50 cent piece and numerous proof and NCLT stuff 1964 3d coin (AU/UNC) - sellers photo, the coin is on its way. It seems 20 million 3d coins dated 1964 were minted and most are probably like this, near UNC. If it helps I only paid $2.50 for it postpaid (As I bought 4 other coins). I also read somewhere, the plan was them to be legal for 2½c after decimal day, but it did not catch on. That ends my contributions to the thread, feel free to show yours and in a few days we will start with 2020 dated Australian coins!

it looks as though your 1959 florin is the scarcer one with the " egg " under the emu.
nice one, too.

squaremealroundplate? All the '59 circulation florins have the egg so it isn't scarcer. If you find one without the egg then it is a proof.

I heard they changed the dies that year, as the older die used since 1938 was looking more and more tired. My 1958 coin, despite being unc does look a bit "flat" in places.
It is annoying that of my huge florin buy in, 1959 is the date that escapes me!

I will, meanwhile, I want to hold off until you have what I sent, if it takes too long I may have to shut it down as I just can not depend on NZ post.
Meanwhile November 20th is when we start the coin of the day thread.

Quote: if it takes too long I may have to shut it down as I just can not depend on NZ post. I will remain positive. It's probably caught up in customs or the huge back log that Austpost have. Quote: Meanwhile November 20th is when we start the coin of the day thread. Bring it on. Steve :)
