1827 Coin Large Cent? - Coin Community Forum

rlw6774 New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 10/16/2012 10:26 am Hey folks, got a question for ya! A buddy of mine has an old coin I'm pretty sure it's a large cent 1827. The coin is not really worth much as it's in really poor condition. But my question is did they stamp some of these coins? cause all the stars & the date & the letters are pressed or cut into the coin & not raised like all the pics I've seen of them online. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 10/17/2012 11:12 am Long exposure to a weakly acidic solution. The raised features and the fields are slightly different in density and react to the acid at different rates. The raised features reacted a little faster and eventually are eaten away until they are below the surface of the field. I have a 1798 S-152 with the exact same kind of etching. All the lettering and the wreath are etched into the surface instead of raised. Report this Post to the Staff
