How many of you are seasonal collectors like I am. I am in construction (excavating) and we do not work in Winter so I have the chance to work at all my hobbies. As Spring and Summer come I tend to spend alot less time pursuing my hobbies. So I call myself a seasonal collector. Sure wish I had the time for it all but ya know life gets in the way sometimes!!! How 'bout you Tony

I'm in construction as well. I'm an electrician and I find I have more time for home projects and such in the winter as well.

Certainly the ebb and flow of my job keeps me from pursuing my hobbies for part of the year. Right now, for example, I'm very busy with work and have little time left for more than reading a few posts on this forum and a couple of others. Fall is also very busy for me, but summer is generally lighter.' I'm just happy to have a job.

I'm not exactly seasonal, but I do go in streaks. For a while I will really be into it and other times I'm just not into it.

Great subject....I am attempting to discipline myself to devote at least 3 hours per week to this hobby. So far so good,...but will have to see how spring and summer fair...hahah

right now I would say that I am a year around collector. my job is scheduled stays pretty much the same from 9-11 hour days so I fill I have time. most of my stuff is done after the kids go to be around 8-9 at night so I have a few hours I can spend looking at thing and organizing. And since I am still fairly young 31 I don't require a whole lot of sleep. But I have only been back onto the hobby for almost 2 years so it all new and exciting so we will see in a few more year how much less I spend.

I guess I am the oddball here, I collect and work on my coins all the time, when I don't have customers,or stocking to do I sit and read my coin magazines or grading books,or sort through coins I have put back at other times. I come home after I close the store, do my paperwork for the store, then read these forums and a couple others I belong to for an hour or so then check out ebay and by that time it is around midnight, so I get ready for bed as 5:30 comes early for some reason. Oh I almost forgot I usually spend about an hour with the wife in between the other things I do. Madspec

My collecting activity begins to decrease in April as I journey outdoors for gardening, bicycling, and wildlife photography. In November it ramps up again.

Pretty much a year round collector. Of course those special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, etc. tend to place a damper on my coin spending!

Good to see that I am not the only one. Since I am a constant reader (all year) if I can just stay with Numismatics in the off season I'll have it made,,, not likely though ^_^ Tony ................................

Depending on what type of construction you do you may be missing out on a great chance to acquire coins during your jobs. Of course that depends on if traveling around or working with people from other areas is common. For example here in the chicago area there was recently a massive construction project in the downtown area where a multi leveled street was completly redone. Since this project required people from every possible type of work, workers from all over the world were there. I found asking many of them for coins proved profitable although I was not the only one doing this. Not only were coins available from other countries but some were found in construction sites by demolition companies. As demo was done to areas that have not been touched since the 20's, many items were being found such as old coins, old bottles, old cans, old everything. Even old wood was taken away by some trucks at night. Anthing that looked like anything was grabbed by someone. One Electrician doing underground work told me he had a bag of coins found in the groud that weighed about 50 pounds but wouldn't sell them. It was amazing how many construction workers were walking away with things that possibly otherwise would have just been reburied. It may pay to ask. I ended up with about a cigar box of foreign coins and I don't even collect them. Nice hard hat, safety vest, hat warmers, clip board collections though.

Yes Carl, We do Demo's too, homes, as the big thing here is to demo a perfectly good house and put up a million dollar one. I am always looking but have not found any coins yet!!!!

McMansion fashioned after the McNugget. Often when I do side work I will leave a cent of the year I did the work. I would love to renovate a jobe someone did perhaps in 1877.
