Removing Adhesive From Indian Head Cents

yechi7 Pillar of the Community United States 717 Posts	Posted 04/05/2007 05:17 am I just bought some Indian Head cents that have some adhesive on the reverse side, like they had been glued in a collector book. This has been discussed many times and it seems that acetone is the best product. Make sure it is pure acetone, not nail polish remover. Do not clean the coins in the cold weather or they may tone, because the acetone does not evaporate fast enough. triggersmob Pillar of the Community Australia 9357 Posts	Posted 04/05/2007 09:15 am I wipe them over gently with cotton buds and because the acetone evaporates off, I don't bother to rinse in distilled water. I there is a lot of glue, you may need to soak. Steve Report this Post to the Staff

The way I know is to pour a little bit in the bottom of a cup or bowl or something, just enough to cover the coin. Swish it around a bit, (for about 10 seconds if that) and take it out, pour out the acetone, and rinse the coin thoroughly. If the whatever it is is still on it, then repeat. Hope this helps.
