I am looking to sell some of my coins. I have several duplicates and would like to sell them. Would I be better off selling them on ebay or at a local shop?

I think you will get better prices on ebay then you will from a local dealer. I think e-bay is the better choice, despite their fees in most cases.

Of course, I see that you have 50 posts here now. You could always try to sell them here.

I'm in the process of selling off some of my coins also. I consigned some coins with Bobby & Susan here at the forum. I also sold some coins to the local "We Buy Silver" guy, and listed some here that I am trading with other members. I probably could have made a better return from selling on ebay, but I didn't really want to take the time to photograph, list, manage & mail all those auctions. Also, I don't Paypal, & auctions on ebay that don't take Paypal seem to get less action.

ebay can always bring more money if you sell one or 2 coins at a time. Also there is a section here that you can post your auctions here so we can all take a look at em. What kind of coins are ya talking about?

Ok, so this summer I plan on selling 100+ Mercury dimes. All basic circulated condition. So your saying I would make more profit by selling them one at a time? Or will the ebay fee's, shipping fee's, and paypal fee's catch up with me?

Clearwater: Since you have your 50 posts, I would suggest putting them up for sale here first. There are no fees and our knowledgeable collectors will be willing to pay a fair price for your coins. ebay is a gamble, especially if you don't have experience selling there.

Trdhrdr: I hope you got the list of auctions that will be launching on Thursday. I think we're going to do very well. The pics came out great.

Tykimeister: Common-date Mercury dimes will sell better on ebay as a roll. Check them for key dates and any old dates that are in exceptional condition. Those I would sell individually. Mixed rolls or Mercury dimes sell very well. Be sure to provide scans of the coins with click to enlarge options if possible. Groups of coins like this, I usually use the scanner since it's so much easier.

I would say with the stuff you listed I would defently try here first. since there are no fee other then if you take paypal form someone. but it is the cheapest way to sell. I think no mater were you sell proof or mint set you will have truble getting alot unless you have some of the hot modern ones. but the franklin it depend on there grade. I know at most dealer you should get around 3.5-5 dollar per half dollar. but you could get the same price here as well for those in no mater what grade there are alot of members who hoard silver. I just know that with mint and proof set it is hard to make much either way on ebay because of fees mainly. but I know that Bobby or susan can tell you more about the mint set and proof or give you pointers since I see they alway have a few each week for sell. or if they feel diffently about the price they sell for. since I ma just going off of the few I look at accually. I just no most who buy off ebay are looking to get a great price if not a way underpriced Item.
But with all that said I would post here first and what doesn't sell put on ebay.
