I think this is a pretty nice coin, except for the dirt.

What does it grade and should I be concerned about the dirt?

My grandfather had this coin. I never spoke to him about it so I have no idea how he acquired it, except that he mostly quit coin collecting for rock hounding in the early 60's so he had it before then.

I have no plans to sell it.

I wouldn't touch it. It looks exceptional as it is. I don't see these very often so I'll defer to some others to weigh in on the grade. Nice coin!

It looks like a great original bust half, the "dirt' just adds to the appeal.

Personally I'm inclined to say VF35 but could be a little on the low side with this one. Nice coin!

It may have an old cleaning. Other than that, the details are about an EF-40.

i'd like to see the coin from photos as these seem to be scans...pics even from a smartphone cam would reveal more of the true originality of the coin that I would love to see

VF Details for now IMO and nice nonetheless, real good old American coinage, sweet
