I have a few buddies and we are thinking of splitting a monster box of silver bullion. Since this newest drop in silver we are thinking of pulling the trigger. We have narrowed it down to ASE's or CML's. This is for putting away and not for immediate resale. Two guys don't care what they buy and my other buddy and I are in a toss up over the two I mentioned. I'm leaning towards the Maple Leaves and he's leaning towards the Eagles. I checked ebay and it appears the CML's can be a little stronger in large quantities. Silver is silver but in the long run which would you recommend/prefer for investment. I have some ASE already in the bank vault but no Maple Leaves plus the CML's are a little.

You're in the states so go with Eagles. The resale value on them may be quite higher.

A variety is nice but from what I have seen the ASE's sell back at a higher price. That said they also come at a higher premium so maybe it evens out.

A monster box is a monster box, bullion is bullion, I personally would never pay more for a sealed box of ASE's over CML, so I would go strickly by price. But let me throw this out for you. ASE -.999 ; CML-.9999

Just guessing, but I would imagine that in the U.S., ASE's could be more readily liquidated than SML's, should the need arise. SML's have 5 dollars face value, but in the U.S., that is immaterial.

I like ASEs better personally.
The maples get the milk spots a lot more too which could cost you some money when the time came to sell unless you were going to sell the box as a whole.

I'm new to this, but all the concerns of milk spots people keep mentioning about the ML's turn me off. The allure of the purity wasn't enough to compensate for the possibility of the milk spots.

Like countless others, I've been through that ASE vs CSM choice. To me, it's all about two things: 1. Where are you located? If you're in the US, the ASE is the better idea and if you're in Canada, the CSM is the better idea. 2. How deeply do you love milk spots and mint/transit damage? My experience is that CSMs are far longer on each of those two things than ASEs. To my thinking--if you're buying a monster box, you're in the US and you're not wildly in love with milk spots and mint/transit damage, ASEs are definitely the way to go and the slightly higher premium is of no consequence. Happy shopping!

Let's see: You lean maples and have ASE, Buddy #1 is leaning ASE, Buddies #2 and #3 dont care. Here's what I'd suggest: 1) Buy the maples, half of them get split between #2 and #3 2) Swap out some of the ASE you hold for some of the maples in the other half 3) The half of that pile that #1 is to get contains a mix of ASE and maples.

Well.. what about a box of Pandas instead?
Anywho... go with the Eagles, they look so cool and the lady on the front is very majestic!

Panadas then ASE, I would never buy a box of ML unless I could get them at or below spot.

I bought one box of each last year. Since I'm not buying as a collector of ASEs or MLs and simply looking for bullion that will be easy to liquidate as necessary, I figured those were the two most recognizable and trusted silver coins around. If I ever had to sell to a dealer, I sincerely doubt I would get anything above spot (regardless of whether it's an ASE or a ML) so why pay the extra premium? Obviously, if I were a dealer selling to the public, I could charge a higher premium for ASEs. But I'm not.

Both are good. I would go for the ASEs this time...MLs next time!
