Shotgun Rolls Of Nickels...waste Of Time?

samsnate Pillar of the Community Canada 1723 Posts	Posted 03/13/2013 11:37 pm Just started roll searching nickels. What's the deal with the shotgun rolls? I know for silver dimes quarters etc etc its a waste of time, pennies..they were not too bad at getting old ones but what about nickels. Do the hold old ones in them rolls? These are Canadian rolls. Petersun Pillar of the Community Canada 1700 Posts	Posted 03/14/2013 12:23 am I don't think it's a waste of time because it's nearly impossible to find silver nickels in any kinds of rolls. I usually hunt for key dates and pre 1981 nickels for melt value. Report this Post to the Staff

Many come from ARP (Alloy Recovery Program) processors for the RCM and are picked clean by machines. But, I have gotten interesting stuff from shotgun rolls like a 1916 dime and several silver US War Nickels (1941-45). Almost all of the 1920's and 1930's nickels I have found came from CWR. I have found several hundred pre-1937 nickels, with most being from heirs dumping collections of deceased relatives at the bank I suspect. Report this Post to the Staff
