The key thing with shotgun rolls is the source.
Many come from ARP (Alloy Recovery Program) processors for the
RCM and are picked clean by machines. But, I have gotten interesting stuff from shotgun rolls like a 1916 dime and several silver US
War Nickels (1941-45).
Almost all of the 1920's and 1930's nickels I have found came from CWR. I have found several hundred pre-1937 nickels, with most being from heirs dumping collections of deceased relatives at the bank I suspect.
