The above image shows two conditions. This post refers to the condition shown with a diamond red in the full image.

Please note that the overlay shown in image 2 is a photographic overlay but a portion of A in the overlay image 2 can be seen in actual condition in image 1.

I have been grappling with this for a while and going between PMD and something related to planchet condition at strike.

My thinking is that it is a damaged/delaminated planchet. The damaged area has the appearance of the outline of a house with sloped roof and hence the title in the subject.

The main reason for my thinking that it is not PMD is the imprint of the H in the damaged area. Unless somebody deliberately created that I cannot see that happening through PMD. Another reason is the raised portion at the base of the T which almost makes the T look like an "I". I do realize that since this is a circulation piece there is some aspect of PMD.

I will post the close-up of the reverse (shown by oval) in a different post because I think they are unrelated.

Any expert opinions on this will be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Seeing that I did not get any response on the coin in this post I was baffled. I am not sure about the reasons but several have occurred. Firstly I tried to introspect to understand if I needed to do something different to at least have a chance of response. A few things that came to mind:

Perhaps a better picture?
Perhaps a more focused question? (Like how much is it worth)
Perhaps a more focused title?
Perhaps this is too obvious and the information exists somewhere for me to find?

So I went about doing some research and found Patrick Glasford's website. I have been to that website before but not paid enough attention. This time I spent more time and figured that what I have is most likely a lamination. Yeah. The outline of "A" is perhaps a distraction and is part of the way the lamination happened. It is certainly not a capped die as I thought from reading some other posts (because the A is not incused)

There is also some Mechanical Doubling perhaps due to Die Deterioration.

If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.

Finally for other novices out there I found this article very informative:

http://jimscoins.com/collecting_mistakes.php

Also on the same website there are some nice pictorial definitions of some of the terms that are commonly used in these discussions

http://jimscoins.com/error_coin_examples.php

If there are other good sources of information for novices like me please point them to me. Somewhere along the line I will compile them for other would be error coin collectors.

Sometimes people don't reply because they don't have what to say.

I have a number of errors that never received any 'attention' while the explanations offered to others were quite in satisfactory (here and in other sites).

I have nothing to say that could help you. I think it is a cool coin and worth keeping.

Pennyman, not every coin dealer is an expert. Just like collectors, most dealers are not experts. Some may say I am an expert on twoonies yet I have no idea of what happened with this coin.

Paisa, I would love to see the coin in hand. I will be attending the September Toronto coin show and the November NUPHILEX. If you are also, please bring the coin, we will have a coffee together and chat.

Your right T_Y I just thought it might be quicker (my bad). But I do notice that you cant see any of the A in the first picture, although it shows up in the second pic. crossing over the I & H after the shrapnel is removed. Must be the light.
