Hello:) What do you think about this half dollar? This coin was cleaned? In your opinion toning is artificially or natural? I think it is overtone 104, because of double arrow. I saw on other PCGS examples, that this overtone have very weak shield details. Even in AU grades shield is incomplete. In other side, feathers are very very nice and sharp:) Too bad, that my coin has a 2 small rim dings... I found this AU50 example, in my opinion details are similar to my coin.

I bought this HD for 103$, I hope, that I do not overpaid. Thank you for all your opinions. PS - Sorry for chaotic post, but I'm really excited with this coin:)

First, nice 1832 CBH!

Second, many of the detail line up with Overton-104, but since O-102, 102b and 104 share the same reverse (B), I needed to check.

The obverse orientation of the #7 star pointing at the bottom of the LIBERTY band (versus the middle on O-104), the reverse lack of eagle's tail feathers (versus full on 104)and the crude/corrected arrowheads lend me to think this Overton is an O-102b.

What do you think?

Any CBH experts also care to weigh in?

I have this one as O-102. Don't know for sure if it's 102a, probably so because of the advanced stage of the reverse. If O-104 shares the reverse, this is the second usage.

1) The oval in the obverse clasp is artificially recut. No way it looks that deep given the rest of the strike. Not a chance, especially knowing that's the first thing that Bust Half doctors do.

2) The toning isn't original. If you define an "old" cleaning as one which took place no less than 25 years ago, this is an "old" cleaning.

3) Detail grade is strong VF. I like this coin; I'd own this coin; if the buyer got over on you, he's not sending his kids to college as a result. Heck, he's not buying a six-pack as a result.

You didn't beat him, but he didn't beat you either.

My first thought was XF Details and likely cleaned then re-toned. The rim hits could have been imparted during edge lettering.

After reading all the comments I agree with SsuperDdave that the clasp could be re-cut. I'm no expert though and can't say for sure. $103 sounds like a fair price all things considered.

Thank you all for response. Now I see, that my coin isn't o-104, but o-102/a. I don't know if I have right, but stars combine with the edge in o-102a. I don't see this at o-102. So maybe it is o-102a? I was hoping, that toning is natural... Please tell me one more thing - overtones have different "power" of minting? I found this o-102a HD, graded as AU55, but in my opinion details are weak, maybe even level of my coin. NGC had a good day? Reverse is even weaker than mine. Honestly, before I bought this 50c, I was looking many pictures of graded 1832 half's, and I saw, that TPG are very forgiving for that year.
