Does anyone know what would cause this creeping crud effect on this coin? Is it the result of a rusty die? If this were a Zincoln I'd say it was gas bubbles but , of course, it's copper. I dipped it in acetone in case it was something on the coin, but clearly it is not. it just looks weird. All help and opinions would be appreciated, thanks!

It may have set in water for a time. Not an original finish.
