Hello,

An interesting article in The Star about the Gold superman coin and how the Mint messed it all up. This could apply to all hot coins released by the RCM.

It was interesting, but as soon as the author wrote that the RCM should have "printed" more coins, I realized that the article wasn't about obtaining a coin for a collection, it was about money.

IMO, dealers should be able to purchase more coins than the public. They're dealers!

If somebody wants to order more than 2, they should start a legitimate business selling coins.

There are many other coins in the past that have sold out fast like that, but if the RCM makes the mintage too high, people will become uninterested.

Rubbish. Typical for the Star.

Dealers have limits too. They're called allocation and based on previous sales. For example, no one dealer can by all of any particular coin. Even if the commission it - exception for bullion.

Anyway, it's only coins, you do not need this to live your life... If you are a flippers and miss this one, yeah, it's a big miss... If you're a collector, then you miss a great coin, but there will be another run in the future... After all, it's 750$, it's lots of money for common people to put on a coins, and it's a gold coin too... The majority collect silver and they not bothered with this one...

He also does not mention that the dealers run the risk of buying coins that may flop. Sure some dealers may have hit it big with this coin or that, but what about all the coins that flop, like the baby set? That was suppose to be hot and had a limit.

"The Mint's stock sold out within hours, pushing prices up to $2,500 and $3,000 on ebay and Kijiji (with one seller seeking a bid of $5,157)."

That it's NOT TRUE.

The coins were available some days even after the public release.

I think the same.
Another one who just wanted to "jump on the Glass Ladybug success". Started to search after it, when the coin became "hot".

Just another Star article about a 'victim'. "Couldn't buy from the Mint! Nasty greedy capitalist dealers made me pay a premium! wah wah wah." This from a newspaper that just stuck up their own pay portal. More Star hypocrisy.

i agree, I watched it on the mint site for several days and hymed and hawed about it, and I didn't buy it, so there were lots of people just like me who now wished they bought it, and didn't..but it just as easily been a dog, and be selling at close to issue price.. hind sight is always 20/20 for a reason..

You are absolutely right. People were still able to order from the Mint for 2 or 3 days after the public release.

Not to mention the gold coin was available to Master Club members for one whole week before the public release.

All I have to say is the author of that article was an idiot and didn't check the facts before publishing/writing it!

"Why do dealers have a different limit than the public"
"Why didn't the mint PRINT more"
"Sold out within hours" - This was available for a VERY long time.

Pathetic.

Also to add to that. I put one up for sale after I got it on September 19th, 9 days after the pictures were released to the public, and I sold this for $1550, not $2900 hours after the release!

Seriously...deserves to be fired!

The Star will somehow blame it all on Rob Ford.

This is just another case of very bad reporting! Ms. Roseman didn't bother to do her homework. She neglected to find out the facts and certainly failed to present an objective analysis.

By the way, why are these men smiling?
