1865 3 Cent Nickel Cleaned?!! - Coin Community Forum

Guido Valued Member United States 390 Posts	Posted 06/18/2007 01:34 am I saw this coin and it sure looked like it's been harshly cleaned. As I am trying to improve my cleaner-catching skills, what does everyone think? Grade wise, I would think AU or lower. The reverse on the left side looks really badly brushed while the area above the III looks obviously cleaned as well (let alone the slanted lines on both sides). hunter20ga Pillar of the Community United States 1173 Posts	Posted 06/18/2007 09:02 am I've got an 1866 that has a similar surface; the consensus at the time I posted pictures on CC a couple of months ago was that it had likely been cleaned. I'd like to see your coin "closer up" though before passing final judgement. As far as grade...looks XF-45 to AU-50 to my eye. I'd buy it, if the price is right... Report this Post to the Staff
