I read something in my newspaper today that I thought was odd, it was an add by New World Rarities, Ltd. $10.00 gold eagles for $324.00 .48375 oz pure gold, at the current gold bullion rate is this a good deal or not. Not asking about the numismatic value just the bullion value ?

Spot Gold Price today is $656.20. Times .48375 oz. ($10.00 gold eagles) = $317.43 bullion value.
Not to divert your thread Bruce but your title reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask.
I've been wondering: What are the least expensive U.S. gold coins available & how much are they?

Yechi7. That is not a problem you have a good question, hopefully we will both learn something.

If we're talking about $10 American Eagles, then I'd say that's a fair price. How about shipping?
If you want to buy gold and own coins at the same time, you really can't go wrong buying Double Eagles. Even in choice UNC (the last time I checked) they're going for not much premium above spot. Keep in mind, they're ultra common so don't count on huge numismatic premiums in the future. I don't know much about buying 19th century and early 20th century gold as I've traditionally steered away from it. I know more about non-gold and if the stuff ain't slabbed I fear getting taken with counterfeit material.

That doesn't seem too bad. I haven't shopped 'em so I can't tell for sure, but that sure seems pretty reasonable to me. How much are they selling $50 Eagles for?

1/10oz $5 American Gold Eagle- they go for about 10-15% over spot (Authorized Purchaser price is 9% over spot)

Could you possibly give us a little more info about that ad? What newspaper was it, what was the phone number, and was there a special code to use? Thanks...

the cheapest gold coins would be 1/10 oz bullion coins for $75 or so. if you're looking for business strikes, either a indian head quarter eagle or liberty head half eagle. these go for $150-$200

Those ads come around every now and then. There is a similar one in the Post today (Metro B6) US gold distribution center selling $5.00 eagles for $66.00 minimum order 5 coins, 10 coin limit per household. 2 days only.
10 $5.00 eagles runs $660 ..which is about spot.

CAUTION! $10 eagles meaning classic gold coins from before 1934 do have .48375 oz of gold in them and that may be a good price. $10 American Gold Eagles are .25 oz of gold and that price is WAY too high. If they refer to them as $10 gold eagles they are probably the quarter oz version. Make darn sure what coins they are talking about before sending any money.

Bruce: That is an excellent price, but don't be surprised if they can 'adjust price to current market conditions.'

They are almost certainly referring to $10 Liberties, .48375 oz of gold. It's a very good price - I almost ordered some. I bought a couple from them a few months back when spot was a bit higher - so this price was very tempting.
