Not sure what I'm looking at... In person its pretty dark and has a sort of green bullseye. I need better pictures but I see some wear on the hair etc. Would this be XF or maybe AU? It was interesting so I bought it, I know it has a huge fingerprint on it :(   |

I can't tell if that's wear or if that is just where the toning was rubbed off. AU-MS.

I can't tell either but it looks like some wear on the tops of the hair which I think would be the highest devices on the obverse. Aside from the rim dings the reverse is pretty nice!

What you're looking at is one of the worst cases of PVC damage I've ever seen on a Morgan. That coin is almost certainly beyond saving, but you need to try.

Soak it in some acetone overnight, have a cold one and check back in the morning..

If you take a Q tip to this coin there would be residue on it.
Toning wou;d not have the greenish color. IMO

Ok Bpoc1 I'm interested. So if I rub a Qtip on it PVC will come off but toning would not? I'll try it once someone confirms that's correct

I am not so sure it's PVC as opposed to some greenish toning given how out of focus it is, can we get a better, straight-on image?

It's PVC. Morgans don't tone that color, ever. Get it into acetone. I can't state this any more unevuivocally.

Here's the best I can do picture-wise. No noticeable residue with a qtip rub on the obverse fingerprint or rim area. I guess I'll be tossing it in acetone. Does it have to be in a glass bottle or can I just use a tuna can? I don't think I have a bottle with an opening large enough..   |

ok here are some pics of my donor coin. I never did an acetone soak before. The coin was in for 75 minutes, swirling about every ten minutes. I rolled a q-tip lightly over each surface at the end. A little grime came off, I didn't apply much pressure. The original 1882 coin is currently soaking now :) before:   after:   |
