I checked around and could only find this date/mint combination listed with reverse doubled dies so maybe it's something new. I need to get better pictures of it but it's got signs of doubling in the motto, most letters of Liberty and at the top of the head. The R of Liberty and the 194 in the date shows the doubling the best though. One thing I'm noticing is it's not rotated doubling, it looks to me as if the die was impressed once then the hub moved to the right and made the second final impression. Any thoughts or opinions welcomed, Dave

Also I posted about an 1829 1/2 dollar with no edge lettering awhile back. That one went to PCGS about 3 weeks ago so I should have an answer on it pretty soon....

Thanks for the replies guys, I guess it could be Machine Doubling but it looks different to me than other coins I have with MD. I need a better camera or at least the sun to come out to use mine but I'll add this picture for now. Is it possible for MD to affect more than one area of a coin? This one definitely shows doubling all the way around where as others I've seen just show it in the area where contact was made after the "bounce" occurred.

Curious coin.

The MD is pretty extreme on the one.

There are different types and levels of MD and it can happen to only one area on the coin or the whole coin.Maybe coop will explain in more detail.

Machine doubling. The flat shelf gives these away. Check out the variety resource pages at my website, it shows a bunch of different DDO and DDR coins, and there is an example of a 1969-S Machine Doubling as a reference.
