I have this Mercury dime and it has no date. I can't tell if someone scratched it off, or if its from a mint error. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

It does not look like a mint error to me. John1

Might be a coin made by the Mint so you can add your own date. Imagine having coins with any date you want. Would be fun wouldn't it?

If it has a "D" mintmark, someone may have been trying to make a 1916-D

Yep! Mintmarks on 1916-D Dimes are so carefully scrutinized, a forger might be better off picking a Dime with a proper-looking D mintmark and then grafting on the 1916 date

The 1916 and 1917 Mercury dimes are high relief. This one is not, so it is later than 1918. I agree with the scratched off date.

Looks like it was removed after leaving the mint.
