my first semuncia, a rupublican coin type that was equal to 1/24 of an as. only my second republican coin. I didn't even know the semuncia was a coin type when I purchased this, was drawn to the redish patina.

Hey Chris well played, but I have to ask, did you realize it was cast when you picked it up? I don't own any RR cast coins, but I have considered purchasing the As denomination. I have seen quite a few at shows and online. This I have never seen. I really like how much of the ROMA on your reverse.

When I posted this one it didn't receive too much critical acclaim but these coins are fantastic in the flesh.

New-Semuncia

This is a RR bronze semis... so now I wonder if two semuncia possibly make one semis (cos I think mine is bigger and heavier but haven't got it handy to tell you the measurements)

I just looked it up... 2 semis make an AS and therefore 12 semuncia make a semis :P

So they are stylistically similar (both with portrait, both with Roma on reverse and both with a prow of ship but the semis was worth a bit more.

Denomination Division of an as Denominational mark
As One I
Semis Half an as S
Triens Third of an as ••••
Quadrans Quarter of an as •••
Sextans Sixth of an as ••
Uncia Twelfth of an as •
