This is what I was told. What do you think?

Galba. AD 68-69. Æ A). Rome mint. Struck circa October AD 68. Bare head right / Libertas standing left, holding pileus and scepter. POSSIBLY RIC I 37

I am pretty sure the RIC number is wrong. The name definitely says Galba. I can't comment on authenticity. The bust kind of looks like Squidward though never noticed that about Galba before.

The coin appears to be legit, but there isn't enough details of readable legend for me to come up with a RIC number.

If I were to guess just based on the location of the GALBA it would be RIC 328. Using the picture on Wildwinds.

From what I can see in the pics it looks authentic. What is the diameter and weight?

I am guessing RIC #s 237 & 238 here: http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/galba/t.html

I'll update with the weight and diameter when it arrives. It's a Christmas gift for my father. I know nothing about ancient coins. I do however recall him saying that he did not have any coins from the year with 4 emperors. I looked up "Year with 4 Emperors" on Google and then typed in their names on ebay. They are pretty scarce and costly but I made a "best offer" on this one for $40 and it was accepted. Did I pay too much?

I have not seen that one....not even on ebay and I have been known to look at all the ACO postings! Clockwork Orange items are kind of scarce...just like Galba. Aside from ebay I have only seen a handful it items in stores. I did meet Mr. Malcolm McDowell and I was dressed in the "Height of Fashion" sporting a home made Alexander DeLarge costume. He was particularly impressed with the britva "Sword Cane" I had made. I imagine more people on this post know him for his role as Caligula in the movie made by penthouse. He was one of the reasons I bought my father a Caligula coin last year!

Nice coin at a great price. Your Dad will love it. If he doesn't, sent it to me.

Coin is a bit rough but for the price ...... a steal !

One 'spot' on reverse at 4 o'clock might be bronze disease and should be watched to make sure it does not grow.

I got the coin yesterday. It is 9.07 grams and 25-27 mm in diameter.
