Dear Forum members,

I have an coin in my collection which I can't identify exactly. It looks like some kind of an variety of the France 1/16 Ecu or 5 Sols 1702.

It also might have been overstruck if you look at the letters.

I am wondering if someone knows which type this is or some other type I don't know yet. The 1/16 Ecu and the 5 Sols both say L.XIIII but mine says LVDXIIII . There are more things that don't look the same.

The Diameter is 20 mmm The same as the 1/16 Ecu and 5 Sols 1702. And it weights like 1,25 gram

Curious if Someone knows more about this one

Best wishes Vincent,

It looks a little like this one on the link below. Only this seems to be overstruck and the signs above the head of louis the 14e and on the other side the A at the bottem. Maybe mintplace?

Droulers 674, 5 sols-aux-insignes (1/16 ecu)
circulated as 5 sols 6 derniers in Alsace)

79.83% silver, 1.632g, 19-20mm, mintage 17,926,402

1702A (Paris) F €15, VF €45

All were restrikes over Droulers 677, 4 sols-aux-deux-L-Couronnes (1690s)

interesting, but then French coins continually throw up new varieties
