My favorite coin I have ever owned, the picture does not do it justice at all. Does anyone think this coin should be a MS67+, currently it is a MS67. Please refer to this link for the PCGS photograph:

Is this the image from PCGS? I feel sometimes the pictures are enhanced......reason? I've owned coins that have been photod by pcgs and the pics made the coin look much better than it really is

That is truly one of the most beautiful coins I have ever seen, as far your original question, I really don't know how they determine a 67 from a 67+, but if it's just eye appeal, then I would think it would make it.

LOVE this RED Lincoln.

But, I don't think it will upgrade. My reasons are, the wider/flatter obverse rim, and the tick in the field at 6 o'clock on the reverse. Is this slightly off center on the obverse?

The digital size of this picture is too low for me to zoom/manipulate.....but will check the PCGS site later.

The PCGS image has....no such limitation.

This is a glorious coin, but (not to be pessimistic) what else would one expect of an MS67RD? I expect above-average eye appeal just to consider this grade.

@ssuperdave- Good point with the above average eye appeal in the first place, but in all honestly, do you think anyone could objectively identify the difference between a 67 and a 67+? I may be opening a can of worms with that opinion but I think when it comes to top of the population big time coins, there may be more of a human element to it than TPGs would like people to think...

OK....looking at the pcgs MAX images...and enlarging to 200%.....Why is this RED not an MS68?

ONE tick on the N on the reverse.

You can ALMOST see eyebrow hair - and I am not kidding!

SUPERB LINCOLN!!!!!!!!!!

Because this is already a $10k coin, and only one exists in a higher grade (can't tell if that's a 67+ or a 68) from PCGS.

Surprising this coin has really taken a beating price wise over the past 5 years. From $17K in 2009 to $9K today. The plus coin has only dropped $2800 in the same time. PCGS lists no MS67+ grades at this time in the population reports.

I'm guessing there have been a few more MS67 coins submitted and slabbed in that time, because the market in general has not dropped that much for high end coins. Currently there are 19 coins in MS67RD and 1 in MS68RD with neither grade showing a plus coin graded. I don't have access to my older pop reports right now, but it would be interesting to see how many there were in 2008 as compared to today. (understanding pop reports are to be taken with a grain of slat due to crack outs and resubs).

To get the coveted MS68RD or a plus designation I think the coin has to be incredible your example is a very, very, very, nice one, but that tiny little tick in front of Lincoln's nose in the field, and on his upper lip, a tiny almost imperceptible discoloration spot between the S and T in "TRUST" and the tick on the N of CENT, on this coin almost precludes it will not get a higher grade nor a plus designation. IMO.

It is an absolute stunning Lincoln, so please don't think I'm down on it, it deserves every bit of a MS67RD grade, I'm just trying to look it over subjectively, since I have no stake in the ownership of it. I would love a coin like this to be in my Lincoln Cent collection, it is so far better than any Lincolns' I currently own it's off the charts!

Exactly, and PCGS puts their money on their grades, they are really reluctant to go too high on copper coins (even if they no longer pay for color changes) a tiny little speck can turn a MS68 coin into a MS65 coin in a very short time I've had some experience with some IHC that changed on me in a 2 year period (my own fault as I didn't keep an eye on them, and had moved to a much more humid climate). But it happens.

I often wonder just how many raw high end coins are still out there! My father told me a story of visiting Harry Bass at his office in Fort Worth back in the early 1960's, said Harry had mint bags of MS Indian Head cents laying around, and I know I've seen old rolls (100's of them) of cents through Halves dating back to the 1920's, (these were unopened bank wrapped rolls), I know they had not been gone through nor touched since I saw them in 1995, (the person they belong to has no interest in doing anything with them, and is not a collector nor do they need the money, they do know there is a great value contained in them), I've got to wonder when they will finally see the light of day? Yes there are still mini hoards of MS rolled coins out there, how many will end up being top end coins is anyones guess, when and if they ever get released I doubt they will impact the market that much, at least not for the top end graded coins.
