Gold4Ever Valued Member United States 170 Posts	Posted 04/25/2014 08:42 am I have read some about the civil war and the idea the union army had to make dog tags which all started in 1861 and these type coins was the base of there idea as how to make them.. I live in N.C. and the coin came local so it could of came off a dead union soldier for all I know but who is to say really as we had a lot of major battles in my area.. it would grade close to AU without the damage and I can't think of any other reason why coins of this era would be found like this. you can read what I'm talking about here.. http://books.google.com/books?id=fN...20it&f=false Report this Post to the Staff
