LCS was getting ready for a coin show when I dropped by and they had coin all over the place.. this caught my eye and priced right as I don't mind the damage for the details ..

Is it correct that PCGS says Survival Estimate 4000 for this coin?

This may be correct but yours is a damaged coin. Still a nice pickup but not in the money as a PCGS.

I got it for $35 buxs and will be a great place holder till an AU comes along..

I have read some about the civil war and the idea the union army had to make dog tags which all started in 1861 and these type coins was the base of there idea as how to make them.. I live in N.C. and the coin came local so it could of came off a dead union soldier for all I know but who is to say really as we had a lot of major battles in my area.. it would grade close to AU without the damage and I can't think of any other reason why coins of this era would be found like this.

I don't think that is right as there are 26 P mints on the first page alone for sale on ebay (and that doesn't take into account dealer inventory and collections etc)
