The 1939 might be a MDS as well but a border line LDS. The die wear is not strong enough to be a LDS. Added: Tough call on the die number. They are pretty close, but not sure if they are both 004? I'll have to check the CONECA disk.

EDS-- Early Die Stage MDS-- Mid Die Stage LDS-- Late Die Stage VLDS-- Very Late Die Stage (at this point the die is happy 'cause it knows it will go into retirement very soon).
Errors/varities are usually more valuable at the earlier stages of the die.
