Misprinted Dime? 2001 P - - Coin Community Forum

edgesnotrounded New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 05/09/2014 4:47 pm Greetings Coin lovers! So I came across this dime and found some information that is close but not exactly. Any help would be appreciated. If it's a fake, or buy me a house in Bali. ;) It is smooth on the front center, and slightly smaller than the back that is ribbed. The center looks like a light pink color although it could be copper? The color of the coin one both sides is a brushed nickel which could be from several things. With research I have come across this misprinting year.. but just not sure. Pictures following. Report this Post to the Staff

Dave42 Pillar of the Community United States 571 Posts	Posted 05/09/2014 5:48 pm Looks like it was in some acid for a little while. Acid will eat at copper faster than the copper/nickel outer layers, which is what your coin is showing. The pocked surface of the front and back are sure signs of acid as well. Just a heads-up on the terminology: "Misprint" is used for paper money and baseball cards. "Mint error" is the word used to describe a coin that was made incorrectly at the Mint. jasper62 Pillar of the Community United States 2189 Posts	Posted 05/09/2014 7:33 pm One more heads up If you suspect you have a coin of value please do not hold it as your pictures show.Hold it on it's edge.The oils on our fingers can damage a coin.
