I would say vf 25 to 30

nice Cud on obverse. N-5? reverse details look stronger than obverse

The reason you are having difficultly grading this is you are most likely confusing what appears to be natural color on the surfaces with a coin that has been cleaned. VF30 details

That's exactly right panzaldi. And, the asking price is $100. Problem for me is that this Cud is rare, and the seller doesn't even know about the Cud. So, I wonder why it is priced as a problem-free high VF / low EF. I got the seller down to $80, but it isn't worth that to me.

must be the late die state that makes it rare because an n-5 is R1

VF 25. Cool coin, nice Cud (cool), but the worn liberty is holding back a higher grade from me.

$80 is a reasonable price for an 1844 N-5d in this condition IMHO. The Cud on this N-5d makes it desirable for sure.
