1946-S Cent Strong Doubled Die Reverse / DDR

orionlocke New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 08/21/2007 02:09 am Hi Everyone, Image: 1946sddr.jpg 70.06 KB I was searching through some wheat cents I just got a couple weeks ago and came across this 1946S that looks to have strong doubling on the reverse. I see doubling on E Pluribus Unum, on the "E" in One, "C" in Cent, and very strong doubling at the top outer edges of both wheat ears. You can see the doubling in Unum and the left wheat ear in the picture. I have been looking but have not been able to find anything referencing a double die reverse 1946S. Has anyone ever heard of or seen a 1946S DDR? Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 08/21/2007 2:14 pm It is flattened down, does not add to the profile of the devices, and has no notching. Machine Doubling essentially looks like the coin was struck twice. A doubled die looks like the letters were placed into the die an extra time. Everything in the doubling has normal relief and does not affect the original letters that were already there. Report this Post to the Staff
