In August I bought a nice lot of nine BU Lincoln Cents on ebay for $100.00, or about $11.00 per coin.

The nicest one was this 1926 which I put up on ebay as a GEM BU and sold for about $50. I thought that was a good price for the coin.

The buyer said he was going to send it to NGC and he emailed me yesterday to say it came back "MS-66 Red".

I was quite surprised at that due to the mark below the TR in TRUST and a couple of marks on the reverse. I would not have thought to send it in for grading since I didn't think there was any way it was MS-66.

What do folks think of this coin?

"MS-66 Red" is a $300+ coin.

That's a beauty. I dont see much wrong with it. I think it deserves MS 66.

Yep, it's a 66. The strike is excellent, the fields nice and so is the luster. A couple little ticks or spots generally won't keep a coin from 66 if the luster is strong. Keep in mind, the TPGs primarily grade on luster - if it's a bright and shiny coin, the grade goes up.

Oh yeah.. it's a MS-66RD for sure..

I would have paid $50 in a heart beat for that coin.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll have to consider sending in future real nice red BU Wheaties for grading, now that I know more about the luster vs. marks grading standards.

I'm not much of a wheatie fan right now, but wow that's a nice looking example right there.
