I am looking at this Buffalo nickel, and I am wondering if this toning is natural, or artificial. Does anyone have an opinion on this? I have no experience with the toning on nickels, but I found this one to be attractive. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Nickel, to my mind, tones more gracefully than any other metal. Further, it can tone under conditions which throw off the usual AT-NT equation, meaning I could see this as natural even if the coin's circulated a bit.

So, yeah. A very subtle, very pretty coin which I'd own even if the consensus was AT. I wouldn't be part of that consensus.

This nickel looks "rough" in tone. This is GOOD!
Nickel is tough to strike, and the details are just dandy.
I see no abrasions to suggest cleaning.
In short, it looks "REAL!"

Thank you all for your comments. I really like this coin, but sometimes I am still a bit unsure when it comes to cleaning and toning. Your encouraging comments have swung me over to a purchase a few minutes ago.
This is the second coin I have posted here with a question in as many weeks. The collective knowledge on CCF is a great help. Thanks again!
