I am looking at this Buffalo nickel, and I am wondering if this toning is natural, or artificial. Does anyone have an opinion on this? I have no experience with the toning on nickels, but I found this one to be attractive. Any advice would be most appreciated.   |

Nickel, to my mind, tones more gracefully than any other metal. Further, it can tone under conditions which throw off the usual AT-NT equation, meaning I could see this as natural even if the coin's circulated a bit. So, yeah. A very subtle, very pretty coin which I'd own even if the consensus was AT. I wouldn't be part of that consensus.  |

This nickel looks "rough" in tone. This is GOOD!
Nickel is tough to strike, and the details are just dandy.
I see no abrasions to suggest cleaning.
In short, it looks "REAL!"

Thank you all for your comments. I really like this coin, but sometimes I am still a bit unsure when it comes to cleaning and toning. Your encouraging comments have swung me over to a purchase a few minutes ago.
This is the second coin I have posted here with a question in as many weeks. The collective knowledge on CCF is a great help. Thanks again!
