Sir Issac Newton was the boss of the UK's mint and that was his official job. He was given the job to find a way to stop mint workers from shaving off bits of gold and silver from coins they made. What else do you do with world's greatest brain? You know back in the day if you were caught counterfeiting English money the punishment was to be slowly boiled alive. Other factoid, yellow fever was also called yellow jack and that is what killed Nathen Bedford Forrest. Bullets and swords couldn't do it but the yellow jack got him after the war.

I know that they give tours of some of the mints.

The New Orleans Mint is now a state museum, so yes there are tours
