Hey folks, what do you say about this one? Obverse looks better than reverse to me, would that be from sitting reverse-side-up in an album? Cheers!

M_D, ( and others who venture into grading Images like this) I am very curious and would honestly like to know ( NOT an argumentative question, just really interested to know): HOW can you grade a coin like this? the photos are not even sharp and clear. no surface details are visible. No doubt, the coin is a higher grade, but are you aware when you just simply change the light angle when taking the pix, all scratches, if any, become visible? personally a will not attempt to come up with a definite high grade. In this case I would say something like: Possibly high MS, subject to either coin in hand or better images.

I'll have to agree with 47P7. I will personally need clearer pictures to grade it. Right off the bat, as it sits, i'll say MS64. But that can change (for the better or worse) with a different angle shot and clearer pictures. Nonetheless, that coin is gorgeous I could spend the rest of my work day just staring at it

I understand what you say and notice you choose not to offer a number. Perfect, I'm glad that works for you, I'm sure your grading skills a very good. Mine, well let's say I'm doing the info junkie thing, it's all learning curves, learning weather or not to grade by a picture or how to, learning about different lighting etc. Of course grading is very subjective and the one who is getting their coin graded I'm sure is not going to run with the highest grade mentioned. It's an arena here for learning and perhaps honing grading skills, hence the sub-section.
I would have no idea how to grade at all, (not saying I'm good at it but I'm trying to learn the best I can, just as you did when you first started grading coins)or know what too look for if this sub-section were not present. It's tough for most people to be out in the real world to at least get a foot in the door about grading coins as I'm sure the real world has too many other things on peoples lists to be taken care of lol. I'm 3 years now coin collecting, and have not even touched the tip of the iceberg on the vast knowledge and info available. Cheers Jon.

grading high end coins with pictures is always a crap shoot. thats why they are "opinion" only. My opinion is high MS

Slightly overexposed, very brilliant pictures is always a recipe for grading disaster.
With that in mind, I'm confident the coin's grade is somewhere between au58 to ms64, but that really doesn't tell anyone much.
Also, very possible cleaned hairlines are present.

Looks like an "Artdio MS64" to me.
Very difficult to grade from these photos. The obverse looks very nice. But the lustre drops off in the centre of the reverse, so I'd suspect it has circulated and/or been cleaned/dipped. Probably a net grade to AU58. JMHO.

there are many "good" graders here. it is ok for them to give number under the circumstances. But, is that really what the basic idea is? what good does it do a owner of a coin when he gest his hopes up and is then disappointed when the real grades from whatever TPG come in. I like to base my grades on the conservative side so the TPG grade can only be a pleasant surprise. we all know that US TPGs have different grading criteria than Canadian TPG's. Louis who owns a Canadian TPG company is a member here. Perhaps he can weigh in on the grading subject only, NOT the actual grades he would assign. I say again clear high resolution images are a minimum to attempt a grade. Interesting though. I think some of you guys do not believe me. maybe I should do a new topic about grading 1 or 2, maybe 3 different coins where the actual TPG grades are know, but from which I have numerous images before graded. I promise you, it would open your eyes. might just do that soon. and yes, it would be fun.

I encourage all newbies to take a stab at grading. Whether they are right or wrong it is a building block for them so lets encourage rather then discourage. A gentle explanation is sufficient should they be off on their grade.

thanks SHAFTA9a, I appreciate the support for the rookie lol
thanks darryldarryl I agree wholeheartedly with your post.
Now I believe the topic at hand is grading a 1902H 25 cent piece, and I do have to stick to my gut on MS65, as stated IMO. I wonder if the op will get the coin graded as I'd love to see the result. Cheers.

I'd guess it's an AU coin that's been lightly cleaned to look like a flashy mintstate coin. AU-55 cleaned.
