I am wondering if there has been any thought given to starting a Large Cent Forum? I know that I would certainly be interested.

I have no control over this Pete. Lol.

I think most of the mods feel that the forum is fine as it is though, as I've seen a few "new forum" ideas shot down in the past.

But... I have to support anything that furthers the agenda of copper fanatics.

A large cent forum would've great but I wonder how much traffic it would get. Also having large cents as a separate forum would mean less exposure to the average classic coin collector. By having large cent and Half Cent threads as part of the main forum, I think that the novice collector might see these coins and be intrigued. Having large cents as a separate forum sounds good but I feel having them as part of the main forum will expose more collectors to our intriguing niche of collecting copper.

I agree with celtic on the copper and newbies thing but I was thinking a dedicated toner forum? Not just beautiful morgans but all toners to discuss beauty, originality, etc...

Ed is a perfect example of a small cent collector who started hanging around the classic coin forum and got bit by the copper bug. Same with the "toner" forum. Let our niche collecting and our coin pics and threads expose the collector, novice and seasoned alike to get interested in our particular niches of collecting. I think the forums are fine the way they are.

Good thinking Celtic. Other than coppers, my main interest is Peace dollars, but I think I've visited the VAM forum twice? maybe? since I've been a member here. Still not really sure of what exactly " VAM" is an abbreviation for. If that stuff was all mixed in with all the other discussions in the classic forum, I may have been more knowledgeable by this time, but I think they created the VAM forum because it's just to huge of an area to get mixed in. It probably would have, or did, begin to clog up the main classic forum.

I haven't really noticed large cent or copper discussions clogging the classic forum up.

As much as I am most interested in Half and Large cents, I have to agree with Celtic. Picking through the entries in the overall forum is OK - I also get pulled in by many of the other entries in the classic forum - they're good too :)

The idea of a large cent forum occurred to me as I was trying to find large cent discussions while wading through the Classic Forum's posts. I just thought it might make them easier to find. Oh well...

Thanks for thinking about it.

An explanation of VAM

Yeah... I know.

I've just been to focused on my large cent set.

I have 12 of the 19 late dates.

I may take a break from it soon though, so that I can finally get some peace....

dollars.

Celticsoul nailed it. We have to think very carefully about diluting audiences with specialty forums, because our primary mission is to expose and educate new collectors. Note that the Morgan & Peace VAM forum is, on its' own, basically as large as the US Classic Variety & Error forum. Morgans are *that* popular.

This is not to dismiss the copper folks; there are well-developed specialty communities here for Large Cents and Colonial copper. We just don't feel the size of the audience is sufficient to make a dedicated subforum self-supporting and contributory to the larger picture yet. If that changes in the future as the Community grows we won't hesitate to pull the trigger. We're watching.

Understood. Kinda obvious that I do not think like a Moderator or Forum Administrator, isn't it?

To many separate Forums now. Actually have you noticed that there are separate Forums here for Canada and other countries. Yet many of them come to the main or classic or modern coins Forum anyway. Why not have a Jefferson nickel Forum? Why not a Roosevelt dime Forum? Why not have a Forum for every coin ever made. How about a 1916 coin Forum? Just think there could be a forum for everything.
Sometimes I find there are to many Forums now and can't find what I'm looking for anyway.
I collect Large Cents but a separate Forum for those, I'd never even look.
