I have a friend in the Minneapolis area who is looking to get some coins evaluated. I live in eastern Canada and am too far away plus I know very little about USA coins. Can anyone recommend any shops in this area?

"Feds in Minneapolis charge 3 coin dealers with coin fraud"

"The total taken in the three unrelated cases topped more than $2 million, prosecutors said, much of it stolen from elderly victims"

Gary Adkins and Associates in Edina. They are nationally-reputed, but tend towards higher-end stuff. Another I know of is Yellow River Rare Coins, Richard Quitmeyer, similarly-oriented.

A good start for evaluating coin dealers is membership in (all three) PCGS, NGC and PNG (Professional Numismatists' Guild). No guarantee, of course, but it weeds out the fly-by-nighters.
