I was bidding on heritage recently and wanted to get this Liege patagon if it comes at reasonable price. I usually do not buy if the coins are under XF grade. However This particular piece at VF-35 had a mintage of only 300. I had it in my watch list and was watching the live bidding on iphone. However I got distracted having to put my son to bed. As soon as I looked at the phone there was a patagon up for bidding and I panicked and bid. Mine was the last bid and I won the coin to later find out its the wrong Patagon. I had won a Patagon VF-20 which has a mintage of 4000. It still considered as rare but of course not rarer than the one I wanted. Add to the insult the coin I wanted sold for the same price as the one I had won.

Anyone else has similar experience ?

Here is what I won 1724 Liege Patagon - 4000 minted

The one I wanted , 1744 Leige Patagon - 300 minted

To answer your question, yes, I can raise my hand.

On the bright side, I rather like the look of the one you purchased better.

The date on the second coin is 1763, not 1744

I haven't had this happen, although I can see how it could happen.

I do agree with Dave though. I think the one you purchased, although a lower grade technically, is the better looking piece.

Well, you still got a really nice coin. How much was it? I hope it didn't hurt too bad.

I have learned that with buying coins, especially online, that you win some and you lose some (i.e., sometimes the actual coin exceeds your expectations and sometimes it falls a little short). Your situation is a little different in that you actually bought the wrong coin, but in my opinion, the one you actually bought has better eye appeal albeit it less rare. So, not a total loss.

Thanks all, yes I was thinking I may have got the one with better eye appeal. But wanted to hear what you think. It cost me $325 with buyers premium. I saved for few months and the money from my ebay sales goes in to that :(
