Hello everyone, this is my first post so go easy haha. I'm not a collector so I really don't know where to start. I found a Liberty quarter in a floor register today at my job while doing some demo. It's in pretty rough shape so I just thought the date was worn off, but sheet a little research I found out there are some without dates. So I'll tell you what I know. 1) it has a D on the left side 2) it has a M on the right side 3) the M is very noticeable and the middle of the M doesn't go all the way down 4) there are 3 stars under the eagle. 5) there are at least 5 noticeable stars on the shield 6) the branch does not touch the L in Liberty 7) her hair turns down whereas the others I've seen it turns up or is flat 8) the robe does not touch the ground beside her right foot That's really all of the noticeable details I know to give. Hopefully the pictures will help. Thank everyone so much for taking the time to help.

You have a type 2 Standing Liberty quarter. Type 2 was minted from 1917-1930. The date is worn off so we can't figure that out, but the D is Denver Mint.

Worn dates are very common on Standing Liberty quarters, the design was changed in 1925 to a recessed style to fix the wear issues. There are only five date possibilities for your coin since Denver did not strike quarters for every single year- 1917 Type 2(indicated by stars under eagle), 1918, 1919, 1920, and 1924. The incuse M on the right side is the designer initial, Herman MacNeil.

This is often called a "slick" for obvious reasons. No value above melt, sorry.

It just looks so much like the other ones with no date. I mean there's not even a hint of one being worn off. Thought I had something. Oh well. Thanks for the help guys.

Welcome! And don't feel bad - finding a Standing Liberty quarter just lying around is still pretty cool! If nothing else, at least you have the silver.

There is a 1916 SLQ T1 that sold on ebay just last week. It'd been up for months upon months and I guess someone used acid to retrieve the date. No idea what they used, it barely worked.
