After a 13 year absence, I'm back to collecting Morgans, especially Rainbow toned. I stated collecting in 1956, when my dad gave me, for my birthday, the biggest, brightest and heaviest coin I had even see in all of my 10 years of live. A 1881-S Morgan. I was hooked. Since I received only 50¢ a week for an allowance, it took 6 to 8 weeks to save up a dollar so I could go to the bank to get another Morgan. After awhile, the bank would let me look through the Morgans and choose the one I wanted, just as long as I didn't take very long looking. This went on until 1962 or 1963.

I wish I would have been around in the days that a bank would let me search their stash.

Howdy and welcome from another native Texan (Dallas) although I live in Virginia now. I too used to get Morgan silver dollars from the banks down there but couldn't afford to keep them -- my allowance was only a quarter a week. Best Regards, George
