I like the look of the toonie and dime but probably not enough to actually acquire them. I would always feel like I am missing the rest of the set then. Will be interesting to see how well this set sells.
Looks like the subscription is already 'awaiting stock' with only 350 sets available yet they are still producing 1500 of each design.
Reminds me of the Oh Canada series where the Mint turned around and gold plated the coins and sold them for nearly double the price.
I can't see why anyone who ordered the first set would want the second in the big coin series even if it's for less money. That's still a lot to pay for five ounces of silver.
The 2016 series is interesting in that an attempt is made to make the coins appear more lifelike which will only appeal to a small group of collectors. I think the first resembles our circulation coins much better.
Anyone know if these coins colourized in house? Why did they only do the reverse?
The Mint could sure have some fun adding hair colour and makeup to our Queen!
I think one dealer has most of the mintage of this set, kind of the Silvertowne version , most of the rest of the Canadian dealers have 1 limits, even Canada post, must be more appealing than I thought
@falcon: Do you mind sharing some photos? Especially some close up? I am really curious to see how the paint job is done. Also do you agree with my observation from the Mint's video, that the relief is lowered on the painted coin when comparing with the first big coin loonie? I am trying to figure out what to expect with the coming coloured 50-cent.
Expanding on shopaholic question... The relief does appear to be lower-certainly different but can anyone elaborate on how a silver coin holds the paint...and what would be the long term effect of such applications re oxidizing on precious metal coins?
I think they are enamelled by some patented process, or you would hope so for 500.00. Glad some people like it, I still think it's a lame idea to colourize this set.
