First Series Fractional Note...monogram Query

DavidUK Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 2624 Posts	Posted 11/03/2015 6:24 pm I got this note recently... the edges are straight rather than perforated so I believe it is F-1242 or is it F-1243 and the difference between the two concerns a monogram. (F1243 has no monogram) I don't see a monogram but I don't know where to look, could anyone tell me which it is and maybe post the other kind so I can see the difference? DavidUK Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 2624 Posts	Posted 11/04/2015 01:22 am Thank you very much :) now I know the difference :) I still have a few problems identifying the exact types for some of the others... the key length ones should just be a case of getting out a ruler, but for instance there are 4 different numbers for this one... and I don't know which it is. F-1257 watermarked, F-1258 unwatermarked, F-1259 blue right of face, F-1260 Smaller red seal. I guess it is easy to see whether it has a watermark or not, and I believe it has the larger red seal, I don't know the blue it speaks of, (I don't see any, but then I didn't see that monogram!) Jimjumper Valued Member United States 331 Posts	Posted 11/05/2015 8:08 pm Your fourth issue Fr# is pretty easy to narrow down. Looking at Kravitz book "A Collectors Guide to Postal and Fractional Currency", your note has a blue right end. It is a bit faint but if you compared it to a non-blue end note it becomes much more obvious and noticeable. It also has a large seal. The top edge of the seal actually overlaps the border. A small seal is short of the border. Notes with both a large seal and a blue end are not watermarked. Since it has both a blue end and a large seal, it can only be an FR-1259. Also by the way, a "long" key is 5mm and a "short" key is 4mm. Hope this helps! Report this Post to the Staff
