Do banks normally have bank straps of brand new 1 dollar bills that have never been used? The reason I ask is because most of the bills I've been getting lately are in pitiful condition and I can't even mark them all for Where's George due to the fact that they won't last much longer. I have heard of users on the site getting brand new bills and marking them so they get maximum use possible.

The short answer, no. The long answer, maybe. You just need to go in to some banks and ask. They usually get new stuff around Christmas season (so, starting around now)

Some 20 years back when my daughter worked at a large chain supermarket, she became friends with the store manager that placed orders for the stores coin & currency needs delivered by Armored Services... Long story short, my daughter was able to have her manager place a order for a brick of 1,000 new $1.00 Bills (10 packs of 100 notes with the BEP band, shrink wrapped) at no additional charge...
I would start there.

In my case we are only able to specially request new bills ahead of the holidays. So be asking now if your bank can order you some. We may randomly get new bills at other times over the course of the year, but typically we are at the mercy of whatever the vault service sends us.

I hope the banks are willing to do that, since I'll only be able to pick up one brick at a time, since I rarely carry over $100 in cash. With my job and payment coming every two weeks, maybe I'll be able to pick up a few straps at a time until I have the entire brick.

IMO, the best banks to find new bills are commercial branches that primarily deal with businesses. As long as you have a checking or savings account, it should be no problem to obtain a strap or two.

At 5/3 we use Brinks so we are usually only able to request new currency, not guarantee it. We get new $100's all the time. Good luck getting new $5, $10, or $50s let alone singles. We usually get all new currency in the winter so be checking soon.

My primary account is with PNC bank, and they get commercial deposits all the time. There's a new branch opening in a week or so that's combining two smaller ones, so I'll probably start there.

I used to order boxes of halves from US Bank without a problem. When a new manager came on board, he wanted to charge me a fee, even though I had checking and saving accounts. Although I still have accounts with them, I took my business to PNC, who ordered whatever I wanted. Came to find out the manager was getting boxes of halves for himself.
Nice Guy!

I went to one of the PNC branches today to ask them about brand new 1 dollar bills. They said that all of their bank straps are circulated, and can't order uncirculated ones due to them being hard to count. They'll be on the lookout for the new ones though, so at least there's hope. And one thing that really stinks is that the new branch will have automatic money dispensers for each teller, so I won't be able to get old bills from that branch anymore...
