Okay as I have been nickel searching. Are the 1946 to 1964 nickels made of silver ? I know the quaters and dimes are.

Nope, only 1942-45 with the large reverse mint mark had silver content. All others are a copper-nickel alloy hence the name "nickel". Any US coin(not including half dimes) denominated "FIVE CENTS" has always been a copper-nickel alloy except for the War Nickels.

The " War Nickels" are only 35% silver. Still with the price of silver that makes them worth 96 cents.

if your looking for silver nickels I find that you will get one every 3 out of 4 boxes or so, not as good as halves but definately better than everything else

Of the capped bust ones from 1829 - 1837 tha say 5C on them. :)

Yes I know, technically and officially the were Half Dismes. I just wanted to be difficult. (And they were Half Dismes. Internally at the mint and in the official documents they didn't switch from Half Dismes to Half Dimes until 1837.)

Now I never knew that, thanks for sharing! I always considered the mintages through 1805 as Half Dismes and I figured I would never own one. Thanks to that bit of knowledge, I now own two
