So I bought a new Dansco for statehood's that has slots for P&D, Clad proof and silver proof. So I was thinking... What would be the best way to build this set? Does anyone have one built up to date like this? What are your opinions on busting open proof sets? Do they lose value this way? I'm just thinking I might have made a mistake with buying this album. I understand how much its going to cost to build, but at the same time I worried about the coins losing value out of the proof cases. I am an album person, and personally want all my coins in albums.

I am building the exact set your Dansco is intended for...I just need to buy the Dansco. I have been buying proof clad/silver and unc mint sets to break out and fill my quarter book. I am going to take the other coins and put them in my other Danscos. I have seen the currently up-to-date 4 quarter set in the Dansco and it's really nice. The fellow wanted $650 for it without the 2008...so I decided to just do my own.

Thanks Nelrak. Your comment makes me more comfortable with building this set. I intend to buy both proof sets for each year as well, slowly but surely since it will be somewhat expensive.
Are you using the satin coins from 2005 up? These satin coins have been bugging the crap outta me lately. I dont really want them mixed in with business strikes.

Not a bad deal really. $0.60 a coin. I might actually do that since buying the proofs will take longer. Thanks for link Yechi.

I can't bring myself to break out silver proofs so I use the Eagle Proof Album. This holds the plastic encased proof set intact, 4 sets on a page. It's not the prettiest option out there but it works and I can easily see/show the set.

Not being a bib fan of the State Quarters but I do collect all types and denominations of all coins so I did the following. I purchased a few Albums from Whitman that just said Quarters, no pages. I then purchased their blank Quarter pages and those Gold looking press on numbers and letters. Most were available at local coin stores and/or coin shows. Only the actual Album Covers had to be ordered from Whitman. In other words I made my own State Quarter Albums with only the P and D Mint coins. No proofs, No Sivers, just plain, old ordinary P and D Mint coins. It is time consuming to rub on those dates under each coin but sure beats wasting money on Proofs for the sets. I think they look nice and I don't have to buy separate proofs or break up proof sets each year. I've done the same with other types of Albums. Since I have 10 Roosevelt dime Albums I made the last 4 similar to the Quarter ones without the Proofs by using the Blank pages. So far never got around to rubbing on the dates under the coins yet.

BTW, the State Quarters album that I bought has only P & D Mints, without Proofs, from H. E. Harris - The Official U.S. Mint Album.

My Dansco 7143 only holds 100 quarters: P&D, no proof (clad or silver). All of my SHQ's came from circulation. No rolls, no sets, no dealers. If I did not get it in change, then I do not have it. That's just the way I roll, baby!

Guess it's all in personal preference. I already have all of these sets that I am retaining in the original packaging and I am getting additional ones for this project. I plan on comparing the ones I have to the new ones before breaking them out and putting the best coins in the original packaging keeper sets...the rest in Danscos.
