Hello,
I'm searching through nickel rolls, current dates have more complete steps because they are new which makes them more prevelant.

Question is, are there certain dates that are semi current (80's, 90's, 2000s) that I should be looking for Full steps?

I always keep my eye open for full steps on the pre-1970's dates.

Also, if a coin doesn't have full steps, should I not keep it in my collection?

Thanks,
Laura

Im not sure what others do but I really only pay attention to the steps on coins before 1986 .

The steps can be quite a challenge--I've yet to find any pre-80s FS in the $1000 ive looked at this last month. I have found a few partial FS, but no true genuine Full Step nickel. Personally, I try not to worry about it too much and focus more on the Obverse--the hair and cheek. Beautiful obverses are relatively avaiable with maybe one per box in the pre-70 area...70+ are still around plenty. I care more for ANY steps more than Full Step. I don't like having a blank slope, but if you can readily make out a few lines without using a lense, I consider it a success.
