mikehy Valued Member South Africa 147 Posts	Posted 04/01/2016 07:28 am The reason the silver 50 cents were done away was the value of the actual silver in the coins exceeded the denomination of the coins. This applied to a lot of silver coinage around the world, especially the common wealth countries. So the problem was not just a South African issue. Report this Post to the Staff
