State Quarters to the Rescue!

Wherein the US House of Representatives finds a way to honor all of the states while taking down the Confederate flag.

Who says that the national legislature does not know how to solve problems anymore?

http://www.nytimes.com/politics/fir...erate-mires/ ... House Looks to State Coins to Avoid Confederate Mires

And the moral of the story (suggest your own) is: good design is a good investment.

Cheers,

GREAT idea for a solution that was primarily political (non)correctness and media hype/promotion to begin with.

I understand that it has become wildly fashionable to decry "political (non)correctness", but we're talking about putting an end to the celebration of armed treason in the service of human slavery.

We were not there. Applying modern mindsets to former cultures is one of the main downfalls of current teaching. I do NOT agree with or would ever want or approve of slavery.

However, as a student and (former) teacher of history, the larger picture shows that what the PC crowd decries was a whole lot more complicated than just saying "treason and slavery." Slavery also was a side issue by default that was certainly not the cause, and freeing slaves was not the goal despite current rewriting of history PC).

The Northern-industrial-minded government policies were making it impossible for the South to exist economically.
They went to war b.c it was impossible for their agrarian culture to exist. So by default, slavery - what the South used for their workforce on the plantations, was eliminated as a way to cripple the South further. Check it out for yourself. Modern programming educational institutions have rewritten everything.

All this from a Yankee who grew up with, and has many close friends of different races.

Didn't realize that people were celebrating "armed treason in the service of human slavery"...

The South seceded for many reasons even though slavery was the biggest issue but very few people in the South actually owned slaves (somewhere around 15%)... Ironically, the largest slave owner in the South was black...

Also, the "Confederate Flag" that everyone associates with the Confederacy was NEVER the official flag of the Confederate States... The Stars & Bars was the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia...

Since Congress approves coins maybe it will generate more thought by the non-collecting law makers into what the mint produces each year.

And the Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Braves, et., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc, should change their names to not offend American Indians.
Transgender using bathrooms of whatever sex they claim to be on a given day (recent retired baseball icon was fired for posting a pic/joke on Facebook).
Kids should get "participant trophies" instead of crowning a dominant champion so that "feelings aren't hurt".
Teachers can't discipline students with a swat nowadays.
Say "Happy Holidays" ...not "Merry Christmas" it might offend someone.
Legalized Marijuana and eventually everything else.
Free Government everything for every citizen, (including illegal immigrants)
Remove all firearms from every citizen so that only police, government/military, and criminals can have them.
We'll happily pay $1.84 for a 10 ounce bottle of water, but are incredulous at having to pay that price for A GALLON of gasoline.
Doctor Kavorkian was put in prison 30 years ago for crimes easing suffering....now we call that "Hospice"...

There's about 43,000 more examples, but i'll stop there. The lengths our government and citizen groups go to to get what "they" want, is amazing. Bystanders standing there doing nothing but shaking their head with their mouth open will always get what effort they put in, which is N.O.T.H.I.N.G.

The country....Yep, she's certainly a changin'...

Correct.

By the way, as my parting shot, go read the articles of secession from any of the southern states (or as they preferred to be called, the slaveholding states). Slavery sure comes up a lot. The words slave and slavery show up eighteen times in South Carolina's declaration. Yeah, slavery was not the primary issue. Right.
