I wouldn't want to see the cent go away as a collector but I would like to see the Lincoln Cent series come to an end at a nice, even 100 years.

How do you feel about it?

I think it's time for a change in design AND coposition.
If they could eliminate the cent and the dollar bill at the same time I'd like that, Mainly because I metal detect and my annual clad cound would go way up!

I think it's about time for a change....the Nixon cent perhaps?

I kid. The Lincoln Cent is one of my all-time favorites, but I think it's due for a redesign, although I think these zinc core pennies are a mistake. Come up with a more durable coin, and if they eliminate the $1 bill, people would use coins--and the merchants would be forced to accept them.

As a collector, I'd like the cent to stay, but the design to change.

As a taxpayer, I'd like them to eliminate the cent and the paper dollar.

As a realist, I don't think any of my "likes" are going to happen.

As a coin collector, I would want it to stay but I don't really collect them. Personally, I don't care but I think it's been around since 1793 so it should stay.

No problem for me.....here in Australia we lost out 1 and 2 cent pieces a long time ago.

Maybe the next to go will be the 5 cents piece.

I echo Bilbo's sentiments...

For those that think the cent should forever be because it has always been, let us take a moment to remember it's fallen brethren... the Half Cent, Two Cent, Three Cent, and they Twenty Cent Pieces...

Change the design and (obviously) the compositon, a nickel clad (the clad used on nickels, quarters, etc.) would be neat. We need some more silver coins, too, but to use silver in a cent is out of the question.

Time for a change in design and composition. Also, bring back the Mill. Time to make things really goofy. We had Mills some time back but were mainly used for taxes. I suggest we reinstate them as normal coinage. Also, start producing paper currency in smaller denominations. We need a $0.25, $0.50, $0.75 paper money. Could also use even smaller amounts in paper such as the CENT. Would stop counterfeiters. Imagine a Lincoln Cent bill. Now when you go buy something and the stores have it as 2 for $19.99, you could buy one for exact amount of $9.995. As you all know EVERYTHING in all stores ends in $0.99

I'm with those who'd like to see both the cent and paper dollar go away.
And what about the nickel? At current metal prices each nickel costs more than 6 cents just in materials. Could we go to a 1/10th based monetary?
