A-Fantastic-1793-Chain-For-Grading-!

A-Fantastic-1793-Chain-For-Grading-! This coin was a dream to get. When I saw it and for the price I could not believe I landed such a fantastic looking chain. It seems VG10-Fine11 but not exactly F12 details or if I should say as such as iv seen many others even in VF20 grade solid even with bigger problems. Ameri and S2 cents are known to have ghost dates even in Fine grade*. And so --this one has a complete date -well aside for the number 1 that is weaker as most are and with this case its marked with some micro pits. So all en all its a beautiful example that even has some hair details on the back of head and lower tips--portrait completely outline with a full eye. The reverse is choice with all the lettering sharp ! Go get another like this for under $32,000. I paid less than half that. A great historic Washington Chain cent---umm lets not go there now hee hee but keep the comments coming --

The Chain and Portrait is what sells this coin today and in the future! Of course the coin has problems....it's over two hundred years old!

You have a wonderful example!

Not all coins that are over two hundred years old have problems. I have some british hammered coins that almost 1,000 years old that have no problems. Those who collect ancient coins have pieces that are thousands of years old that not problem pieces.

This coin is okay and the fact that it is an S-1 AMERI. makes it better. I've looked on of these for years, but have never found the right one that I could afford. I've gone back and forth a dealer / collector for years who has one that is fantatic some ways, but scratched and damaged. The surfaces are a perfect light tan, but a previous idiot owner carried it around in a 2X2 with staples in his wallet for years. The rest of the story is even worse.

Here are photos of the coin. Many years ago Maine barber, who I will call charitably call "less than ethical," bought 50 large cents for $50. This was one of them. A Maine coin dealer chased this guy for years in his efforts to buy the coin. At one time the dealer offered him a new car for it.

Finally the guy sold the coin the dealer, but between the time he bought the piece for $1 and when he sold it, he had carried in his wallet and scratched it. Needless to say he got a lot less money for it.

I made an offer on the coin over 25 years ago which was declined. More recently it was offered to me, but the terms were very restrictive and the price was more than what you would pay for most any Cadillac, including the Escallade. It's not worth anything like that now with the problems.

I don't think that there are any red Chain Cents unless they come from China or the Gallery Mint.

Here is the one in my set.
