That's a beaut, Jim. Not nearly experienced enough to grade it. I wonder if there's some circulation wear on the finer points of the headdress...if so, a wild guess at AU58...I see the huge chip above the head/hat. Is there something going on with the date?

I will have to take a look at the date more closely. Nothing jumped out at me. I'm not sure thats a chip in the headdress either. I assumed that was a fold in the top of the cap. I will also have to take a closer look as well.

Thanks,

This 1916 is not a key date, but the 1916-D is THE key date of the series.

A little tough to grade from the pics but I'll say AU-55. Looks like some wear on the diagonal fasces. The 1916 was not notorious for a weak strike which leads me to believe it's seen circulation. JMO.

Sweet coin , Its hard to grade from a photo. you know to get a angle view and with the light so I will go au-58 and it may not be a full split bands. But has a nice "split" band. some have been known to "split hairs" on that issue. A nice no problem coin.

I know my pictures hamper ones ability to grade this coin accurately. Especially when it is on the AU/MS fence.

I will say the luster on the coin is equal to that of an MS coin. It is hard for me to tell if it has wear on it. AU-58 is a good safe grade but I wonder seriously whether its not an MS coin.

What perplexes me is I pruchased it off of ebay and the seller listed it as XF! The pictures were not very good but I felt this coin had a shot at a strong AU grade. When I got the coin in hand I was pleasantly surprised and wouldn't be surprised if this would go MS.

I like that guy's grading I don't see anything that would keep me from calling it an AU55/58
