I am going home this weekend (a 6 hour drive across the entire state of Kansas). The reason I am sharing this with all of you is I am going to dig out my grandfather's coins that I inherited, and also my great-grandma's (from another side of the family) coins that I also inherited (I'm not surewhat she had, but I remember a bunch of cents in Whitman type albums). Oh, and the motherload: my personal childhood collection that probably hasn't been touched since 1989, lol. I had completely forgotten about these until I joined this forum. I am excited to post any interesting finds that I may have! Keep you fingers crossed for a horde! I will be sure to share (pics) of finds! Edited by MorganNoob 03/04/2008 01:45 am

I was talking to my Dad about my roll searching and he mentioned that he had a tin of over 100 half dollars. I asked him what year he thought they were and he thinks 1964 for most of them. He than also mentioned that he and my Mom had also saved silver dollars they would come across, this was back in the 70's. I told hem next time he visited to bring it all down with him and I would go through them and see if there is anything of interest. I can only hope.

Always knew my father had a coin collection but he always talked it down as a very humble collection. He died 5 years ago and I never really thought about it until joining this forum.
I called my mother a couple of days ago and asked about it. Come to find out that both of them were really into coins! They used to go to shows and events to look for coins. My mother told me that she and dad were quite the numismatists! Hearing that word coming from my mother on the other end of the phone was pretty darn exciting!
She told me that they sold quite a bit of it during lean times while they were raising us 6 kids but that she still had quite a few mint sets some 1 oz Krugarands and quite a bit of loose coins too.
I am so looking forward to my next visit to her house!

In 1957 one of my brothers passed away. My parents boxed up his stuff that was worth saving. One of the things was his piggy bank. It has a bunch of coins in it and some paper money. Nothing has been added or taken out since then. I will never break it open to see, but it makes me wonder.

I say keep it in the family and continue to add to the variety. Imagine the same excitement when your grandchildren find those hidden treasures!

When my mom passed away in 1984 ,I got this tin box almost full of silver dollars, half dollars ,V nickels and Indian pennies, etc.Plus my dads Remington pump shotgun.Well I still have most of the coins but my work got slow and I sold my dads shotgun to a guy with the understanding that I would get it back when I got the money, guess what, he moved away.To this day I've regreted selling it..

"while visions of sugar-plums dance in our heads" I have always found the best part of these is the anticipation, still I hope you find some gems. Every once in a while........ Jim

I agree with that. One more thing, would you consider adopting me in case you discover a exceptional coin collection?

Well, I have returned. No, there were no CC Morgans, BU Trade dollars, actually nothing worth grading. But, I forgot just how many coins I had! I couldn't find my grandfather's small bag, but my mom thinks it is in storage and she is going to make a point to look for it soon. I did find some cool stuff though, and I will post some pics tonight, so stay tuned... I have gone from a collector with a handful of coins that I recently aquired, to a collector needing good albums to start filling holes in.
