This 1826 Large Cent is in decent shape. It has a counterstamp: J.H.B. on the obverse. The 2x2 that this coin came in has to be at least 30 years old, so this is fresh material.

Thoughts on a grade (notwithstanding the counterstamp?)

The fingerprints do not show up in hand. They do in photos and strong light -- I attempted to remove it with acetone, and again with Verdi-Care, and had zero success, so it is a very OLD fingerprint that is permanently toned into the surface.

VG-8 details. There are collectors that specialize in counter stamps and this one might be able to be identified.

I'm closer to G6. I know what you mean about the fingerprints. just bought a Franklin half with a fingerprint in the pic, but in hand it's hard to see.

VG-08 Details. Is that a partial stamp on the reverse by the wreath?
