Can't Identify This Coin - Coin Community Forum

lumourinho New Member Argentina 3 Posts	Posted 09/14/2016 12:17 am Hello! I'm new to this world and I was wondering what type of coin this one is (how is it called, if it's good or not, etc). I literally know nothing about it, just that it is from 1885, and I'm assuming it's from Great Britain. Some help would be great!! The particular portrait of Queen Victoria seen on this coin was not used until 1887, which means that this coin is unfortunately a fake and may or may not contain more than a negligible amount of actual gold Report this Post to the Staff

If it is gold then the melt value is worth a good bit. It could be two coins in one setting, which would explain the wrong date for the Jubilee obverse, or it could be that the original maker cheated his customer by shaving down two coins so there was less than the total value of gold before mounting the mismatched pieces in the bezel.
